Confident and responsible, ready for life
We want boarding at Caterham to be an enjoyable and beneficial experience, full of opportunities for discovery and personal development. We support and encourage our boarders to grow as confident and responsible young men and women, ready for education and ready for life in every direction. They live and work together in a relaxed, friendly, family environment.

'Boarders have wonderful opportunities to flourish here, and we make sure that they have our total support.' Teacher

Known and valued as individuals
Young people at Caterham are known and valued as individuals with unique talents, needs and aspirations. We take great care of their well-being and safety in every aspect of school and community life, with a positive emphasis on trust, dignity and mutual respect. Our pastoral care programme provides outstanding academic and personal support, allowing students to grow in confidence and to believe in their potential. They have freedom and responsibility in equal measure, and we are proud of their excellent record of behaviour and consideration for others. Most of our highly committed boarding staff live on site, and all undertake regular specialist training approved by the Boarding Schools Association. 'There is always someone available for our students, 24 hours a day. They know that we are here to help.' Matron

High standards and exceptional results
Caterham School has a reputation for academic excellence, consistently achieving superb results in every discipline. Independent learning and critical thinking are at the heart of our success and educational philosophy: our students learn to become bright, freethinking individuals who test their knowledge and skills in the real world through inquiry and interaction at every opportunity. We engage and challenge them to push at their own boundaries, to expect the best from themselves and to respect the meaning of learning for life. Boarding students have structured prep sessions each evening during the school week, supervised by prefects. Teachers are always on hand for guidance and advice. 'Learning seems to make sense at Caterham. It's real and fun, and feels like it's important.' Year 11 Boarder

Confidence, warmth and comfort
Caterham students find confidence, warmth and comfort in their surroundings. Our boarding houses provide excellent accommodation and food, great friendship, facilities and activities with extremely flexible arrangements to suit individual circumstances and needs. From full boarding to occasional overnight stays, we offer real choice and support for busy families. 'Caterham gives us everything we need. It's like a nice big family.' Year 8 Boarder.

Spirit for adventure
Our community has a culture of involvement and contribution, and an important tradition of spirit for adventure. We strongly encourage our students to explore their surroundings, to question and to discover meaning in their world, to try new experiences and to face new challenges. We ask them to find their own paths, their own talents and their own voices, and we provide support and nurture at every level. Regardless of ability and experience, all are welcome to contribute to our rich and varied schedule of extracurricular activities. 'Caterham really works for my children. They have freedom to be themselves and all the support they need to shine.' Parent
