Menus Introduction

The School is very aware of its responsibility to provide nourishing, appetising food that is appropriate for growing pupils. We have awarded our catering contract to Sodexo, one of the world’s leading companies in food services.

Sodexo use their Feedlife offer, which includes traditional dishes with influences from around the globe - all using fresh and seasonal produce. Feedlife consists of a wide choice of menus developed from over 2000 chef tested recipes.

The emphasis is on healthy eating, variety and the use of seasonal products. Where possible a regional approach is adopted to the sourcing of ingredients - focussing on sustainability, seasonality and provenance. The sustainable procurement policy has been developed in line with the UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) guidelines and, through suppliers, ensures that ingredients are sourced from sustainable and ethical sources. For example, fish products are Marine Stewardship Council certified.

Menus include traditional British dishes such as roast turkey and Shepherd’s pie but also include more international cuisine such as lamb koftas with salad, Kashmiri Rogan Josh and chicken chow mein.

The main course is planned with both the midday meal and evening meal in mind. So if beef is offered at lunch time it will not be on the menu in the evening. We always offer a vegetarian option. There will always be a supplementary choice available in the evenings which can range from stir fried chicken through to quiche.

Pupils can also select from a wide range of salads and dressings to assemble a salad of their choice.

Desserts can vary from cherry & almond slice through to treacle tart and there is always fresh fruit and yoghurts available at every meal.

Boarding pupils have various options for breakfast. Cereals, toast, fresh fruit and yoghurt are always available. We also provide a hot breakfast option and a ‘continental’ breakfast.

We are aware that some pupils may suffer from allergies or need gluten free options. When traces of nuts may be found in prepared foods we indicate that possibility with a notice. It is essential that parents indicate clearly on the medical form that comes with the joining information if there are any allergies of which the catering team should be aware.

Our intention is to make pupils feel as comfortable as possible by providing a friendly service with nutritious food that they will find appetising.
