Careers Advice
Mrs Clare Brown, Certificate of Careers Education, University of Cambridge.
Clare joined Caterham School in September 2000 as a part time Careers Adviser. Her brief was to set up a student friendly careers department with an emphasis on the Sixth Form and Higher Education.
Today the Careers department is a thriving resource centre which is used by the whole school from Year 7 to Year 13. Clare, now Head of Careers, organises a wide variety of careers events from small careers talks to small groups of students, through university choice forums for the Sixth Form, to the Careers Convention, which covers over sixty different professions, for the whole school.
Clare also delivers a comprehensive careers programme within the PSHE and Sixth Form forum curriculum, looking at GCSE and A level choices, gap opportunities, mock interview preparation and psychometric testing.
The Careers Library, adjacent to the main school library, offers a wealth of resources from university prospectuses and degree subject guides to colourful, tactile careers brochures and networked computers with careers programmes. The library is open from 8.30am until 4pm every day and all students, parents and staff are welcome to utilise the available materials.
