Headmaster Julian Thomas said: 'I am delighted with the achievements of these 126 remarkable young men and women. Last year's results were outstanding so it is a delight to be able to report two new records this year. It has been another busy year, even more so than usual with our bicentenary celebrations and the associated activities and events. I believe that these excellent results have been achieved not in spite of the breadth and depth of co-curricular involvement of our students, but because of it. They show, in the clearest possible way, that these activities do not need to be at the expense of academic achievement. These grades are a testament to the enthusiasm of our students and their commitment to a broad and varied education. I am particularly delighted to see that the 13 students accepted for Oxbridge, another record, have all achieved their necessary grades.

I would also like to pay tribute to our teaching staff. The students will know that the results today are also a tribute to their care and commitment.'

  • 72% of grades were A* - A, which equals the previous record for the School
  • 91% of grades were A* - B
  • 99% of grades were A* - C
  • 13 students achieved all A*
  • 47 students achieved all A* - A

Headmaster Julian Thomas said: 'These are an excellent set of results. It is pleasing that another school record has been surpassed particularly when it has been reported that the number of top grades at GCSE is likely to fall this year. These pupils have worked extremely hard and have participated in a wide range of co-curricular activities, showing once again that a broad and varied education can be enjoyed whilst still achieving academic success. Of critical importance is that, beneath the headline figures, there are numerous notable personal achievements with many pupils exceeding their expectations. Universities have made it clear in recent months that GCSE results will be hugely significant in their admissions processes so it is pleasing that our pupils have laid a firm foundation for the next stage of their education.'
