Music & Drama Productions
Each year we stage a musical which becomes a focus for all of the performing arts subjects. There are many elements to staging a musical: singing, acting, dancing, directing, lighting, sound and design. Our music and drama departments work closely together to ensure we maintain our high standard of production.
Musical Theatre singing is a big part of the vocal emphasis at Caterham School. Many of our singers are in one or more choir and every year we hold a concert dedicated to musical theatre.
Latest production (2011)
In a flash of legwarmers and headbands, the Caterham School production of "Fame!" exploded onto the stage on Wednesday December 7th. The show tells the story of a group of performing arts students in New York and follows their journey to graduation. The characters are dancers, musicians and actors so the cast had to be adept at all three disciplines. Musical productions are always an ensemble effort and this show more so than most. The show dazzled through a fantastic marrying of dance, drama and music.
We Will Rock You (2010)
'We Will Rock You' is a musical featuring the greatest hits of Queen. Musically, the show presented challenges as the highly complex guitar work and demanding vocals are so well known. Our carefully selected band featured some fantastic student musicians who did not disappoint. Pounding drums and soaring solos made the soundtrack comparable to the West End band. The off-stage chorus enhanced the show with the intricate harmonies found in songs such as 'Bicycle Race' and of course, 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
