Surrey Schools Championships

Caterham School had 15 pupils selected to the South Surrey Athletics team based on their performances at the District Finals on 10 May. Last Saturday, those athletes competed in the Surrey Schools Athletic Meet which is a pathway to represent Surrey at the South East Regional Meet.

Whilst being selected to the South Surrey team is an honour in itself, there were a number of excellent performances which need recognition. Jack finished third in the discus competition with a throw of 29.84m. Not only was this an incredible achievement, it was accomplished all while he was revising and taking his GCSE exams.

Amy and Jonny both just missed out on medals, finishing fourth in the long jump and shot put respectively. Lauren earned a personal best in the shot put, but a very competitive competition saw her finish in fifth place.

Amelia, another Fifth Year, who has continued her athletics during GCSE exams, finished sixth in the hurdle finals. Georgie performed well in the 300m heats which earned her a place in the 300m final where she finished seventh and Olivia also produced a top result in the hurdle heats and finished seventh in a competitive hurdles final.

Other pupils who were selected to represent South Surrey were Oliver (1500m), Nick (long jump), Conor (triple jump), Enzo (discus), Tyler (400m), William (hurdles), Finlay (javelin) and Anna (800m).
