Headmaster Julian Thomas said: 'These astonishing results are likely to be among the very best in the entire country. The fact that three quarters of all examinations were graded A* or A demonstrates just how well this year group has performed.

These 123 remarkable young men and women have shown in the clearest possible way that commitment to a broad and varied education should not, and need not, be at the expense of academic achievement. Along their educational journey, they have been active participants in every aspect of School life.

For me though, I will always remember their enthusiasm and good humour. It has been a genuine pleasure to get to know them as individuals and as a group; these results are a fitting end to their time at Caterham. I would like to wish them all good luck as they move on to the next important stage of their lives.

I would also like at this time to pay tribute to our wonderful teaching staff: our students will know that today's achievements belong as much to them.'

Pupils Achieve Another Excellent set of GCSE Results

The 126 Caterham School pupils who took their GCSE exams this year produced another excellent set of results with another School record broken.

  • 70% of grades were A*-A, a repeat of the 2010 achievement. This is the third consecutive year that 70% or higher has been achieved at A*-A.
  • 93% of grades were A*-B which set a new record for the School. This is the fourth consecutive year that over 90% has been achieved at A*-B.
  • 99% of grades were A*-C

Headmaster Julian Thomas said: 'These are a very fine set of results, amongst the best the School has ever had. I am delighted for the pupils who have all worked so hard and mad a valuable all-round contribution to School life. The most pleasing aspect for me is that for many pupils these results are a significant personal best.

All our pupils have laid solid foundations for the next stage of their education. These results, together with our outstanding A-level results last week, are a fitting way to begin the celebrations for of bicentenary year.'
