A wonderful highlight of the Music Week

A wonderful highlight of the Music WeekThe Charity Music Evening on 1 May was a huge success and a true highlight of music week. A total of 73 students from Prep and Senior Schools joined forces to perform a wonderful variety of music to a full house. The schools we support abroad will benefit enormously from the fund raising which has so far reached just over £2000

Vivaldi String Orchestra made a lively start which was followed by a selection of excellent solo performances. We were treated to beautiful singing, famous encore numbers on violins, a delightful harp and voice number and an awesome work on bass guitar. Chamber group items were all very well presented with appearances from Tootie Flutie, Quartz, Piano Trio and a violin and harp duet.

During the evening, presentations were made by Sixth Form students who will be visiting Ukraine, India and Tanzania. These groups decorated the hall and tables in national colours and the audience were able to enjoy a selection of tasty treats representing these three countries.

Comperes Jenny Hopkins and Annie Ingrassia presented the show and led the raffle.

Mr Stuart Galvin auctioned the generous lots on offer raising £640 for the charity fund. Headmaster Julian Thomas bid for and won the honour of conducting Vivaldi in a performance of Andante Festivo by Sibelius. The audience joined him in a brief conducting lesson to secure 4 beats in a bar then he took charge. (A rather successful effort overall until the conclusion when the string players had fun grinding to a halt in whatever way they wished!)

The evening finished with the guitar ensemble 'Take your Pick' joining forces with massed strings and drum kit for the Queen number 'We are the Champions' arranged by Bob Broadly. This provided a suitably loud finale to a great evening of entertainment and fund raising.

Congratulations to all who took
