End of an era – OC Rugby at Hill Fields
At the end of April the Old Caterhamians’ Rugby Club hosted a festival of rugby to mark the end of their time in their old clubhouse. The clubhouse will soon be demolished as work nears completion on the new, state-of-the-art clubhouse and pavilion that is being built at the Hill Fields site by the School which will also be the new home to the OC Rugby Club.
It was a superb day of community rugby and it was an excellent example of the collaboration between school and rugby club that we would like to develop even further. The day consisted of a match between the School’s U16s against a talented Old Caterhamians U16s. In a closely fought contest, it was the school side that managed to be a bit more clinical to take the win by five tries to two. Well done to the boys that played for both the school side and the Old Cats – a special day for you guys! After a fantastic display of mini rugby – community rugby at its best – the finale was the Old Caterhamians 1st XV against an Invitational Team. The latter side consisted of former pupils of the School that left within the last six years (plus one ageing member of school staff). In a fine display of running rugby on a newly laid superb surface, it was the Invitational team that ended up securing the win 32-20, but this was one of those rare occasions when rugby really was the winner.Back to all news
