The final week of the Summer Term at Caterham School is Arts Week. This exciting week sees a wide range of artistic and cultural activities, displays and performances to inspire everyone. Arts Week is also an integral part of the Caterham Festival, which is now in its eighth year in our local community. This means that certain events will be open not only to everyone in our school community, but also to all local residents.
The Arts Week programme features performances by our own pupils and also visiting companies and artists. In previous years, Arts Week has included performances by Horrible Histories and The Reduced Shakespeare Company.
Arts Week 2019
As well as giving pupils the opportunity to enjoy drama, music and art workshops, Arts Week 2019 offered space to design and innovate and to explore media and communication. Quantum Theatre treated junior years to a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”; First Year pupils enjoyed the ever-popular Gospel Workshop and the Second Year developed their rhumba skills. The Third Year explored fake news and social media and learned more about how they operate in a team; the Fourth Year worked with students from Brighton University and were challenged in an upcycling project. Pupils came together to showcase their skills in music and dance in the school’s MAD LIVE performances as well as staging a number of plays in the Orchard Theatre Festival. As ever, the House Song competition was a rousing occasion!
