SHAPING FUTURE-READY MINDS
The EDGE & Oracy Summer School programme at Caterham is a forward-looking academic enrichment course for students aged 11-17, designed to develop critical thinking, confidence and the skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
In one week, students will immerse themselves in an Oracy challenge, taking part in either Model UN or the Caterham Bar, depending on their programme dates. Through research, preparation and live discussion or debate, they will explore complex issues, respond to competing viewpoints and develop their ability to communicate with precision and confidence. Whether negotiating solutions to global challenges or presenting a compelling case in a mock trial, students will strengthen their speaking, listening, research and persuasion skills.
In the second week, students will take part in Caterham’s EDGE programme. Through practical challenges, leadership activities and collaborative workshops, they will develop creativity, resilience and problem-solving skills. They will work with others to tackle real-world challenges, developing the confidence and initiative to turn ideas into practical solutions. Students will also explore the possibilities and ethical implications of artificial intelligence, considering how emerging technologies can be used creatively, responsibly and effectively. The programme culminates in a collaborative project, where students use their new skills and AI tools to develop a solution to a real-world local or community challenge.
Minimum B1/B2 English Language CEFR score (Ages 11-17)
While many employers report that school-leavers often lack the social and digital skills needed for modern workplaces, EDGE helps close that gap. It builds confidence, initiative, and the ability to think differently – qualities increasingly valued by universities and employers alike.
