Sports – End of Year Roundup
As I write this, the U13 cricketers are about to start their last match on their three day cricket tour to Suffolk. This will be the 977th school sports fixture of the year showing that sport at the school continues to grow and flourish. Almost a thousand fixtures have been played across seventeen different sports and one hundred and forty four different teams.
Across all of these sports and teams, there is one common thread; our commitment to developing our pupils’ skills, talents and character and harnessing a love for physical activity that we hope will last a lifetime.
By establishing a true ‘Sport for All’ culture that recognises and appreciates the efforts and talents of all of our pupils we aim give all of our pupils the opportunities that they need to reach their sporting goals, whatever they may be. By maximising participation and enjoyment, we aim to create an environment in which all pupils feel supported, are challenged at the right level, and celebrate each other’s endeavours.
You will note that results are not one of our key aims. That’s not to say we don’t strive to win. We do, wholeheartedly. But is the development of our pupils that is always are number one priority. We know that if we get the process right, the pupils will improve week, by week, month by month and year by year. The results will take care of themselves. We challenge our pupils and our fixtures lists are tough. But, just like the England football team in their recent match against Columbia, our pupils learn to display great tenacity and resilience. Like England too, our pupils learn to remain calm under pressure and always display the very highest levels of sportsmanship.
So as we round off another super year of school sport, let us reflect on all that our pupils have achieved on the sports fields. It has been another great year and I can’t wait to see what the next academic year will bring. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents for their continued support of school sport; it is greatly appreciated.
Finally, I am not sure if you have heard….it is coming home.
