United Access Easter Residential

United Access Easter Residential

During the Easter Holiday the fifth United Access residential course was held at Caterham School. The programme sees 18 pupils from six United Learning Academies attend two residentials per year, from Third Year to Upper Sixth.

The Easter course had a strong focus on revision as the pupils begin their GCSE’s next term. The United Access team worked to ensure that, despite the focus on revision, the week was rewarding and enjoyable for pupils. They included opportunities pupils wouldn’t typically get in school, such as lessons on memory, information recall & the best ways to revise and virtual reality revision, using the ‘mind palace’ theory to revise a least favourite subject with virtual reality goggles.

The team was particularly struck by how focused pupils are on their studies and how they managed to maintain this throughout the week.  The next residential is planned to take place in June, at Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge, where pupils will begin to focus on University and the application process.
