EDGE launched to Lower Sixth Form
On Tuesday we launched our EDGE course to Lower Sixth Form pupils. Already established as a curriculum subject in the First and Second Year, EDGE in the Sixth Form is designed to help prepare our young people for the world they are living in. The course looks to broaden their understanding of key social issues, as well as skills and ideas that will help them both now, with their studies and passions, as well as in the future as they move into higher education and work.
We were delighted to be able to welcome Roy Jubraj, Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer for the eSure Group who talked about the changing nature of the workplace in the face of digital transformation and what this meant employers were looking for.
The Lower Sixth also heard from Dr Mattia Gallotti, founding faculty member of the London Interdisciplinary School, a new university, opening its doors next year, and the first in 50 years to be awarded degree-awarding power from opening. He explained the absolute necessity of interdisciplinarity in complex problem-solving and how this approach might help tackle some of the world’s ‘wicked problems’.
Finally OCA Innovation and Collaboration Award 2020 winners, and new Old Cats, Misha and Zakhar talked about the work they had done developing their charity platform Funder. They spoke of how the EDGE course in its earlier iterations had given them the platform and ideas to design and iterate their project to successful completion.
The Lower Sixth will work towards generating ideas and entries for the OCA Innovation and Collaboration Award as the year progresses. They have also been invited to participate in the content and design of TEDxYouth@CaterhamSchool.
The next Lower Sixth Form EDGE session happens at the end of this term and will be on the theme of activism.
