Ending the Isolation of Old Age

Ending the Isolation of Old Age

As the second lockdown began, there was no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic had exacerbated loneliness, making it important to provide older people with social contact. To make a change, Lower Sixth Form medic Michelle W decided to help organize a fundraising program from the Virtual Medic Society for the charity Kissing it Better. Isolation within the elderly community is not only a very important problem but also, a current issue that we are facing now more than ever due to Covid-19 lockdown measures.

Kissing it Better is a healthcare charity and training provider that works to end the isolation of old age by bringing the generations together. All the money donated will go towards their teaching programme, student volunteering placement, enhancement of patient experience, and research into the impact of creative thoughtfulness on the recovery times of older people in healthcare. The aim is to end isolation in older people. The target is to raise a total of £2000 and we hope to bring a difference during this unprecedented time.   Mr Quinton said how proud he was of the number of ways that the pupils in The Wright Society (the school’s medics society) are looking to volunteer and help in any way possible during the pandemic.  If you feel you can help Michelle and donate something however small, please donate via https://www.gofundme.com/f/medic-mentor-team-4.
