There shall be no more cakes and ale?
Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?’ Well, Mrs Yankova’s First Year English class couldn’t let Sir Toby’s infamous line from Twelfth Night be proved correct, so, as ale was sadly off the menu, they set about cooking traditional Shrewsbury biscuits in last Friday’s lesson. Popularised in Shakespeare’s time, these zesty biscuits were a hit and led to the pupils writing some very appreciative reviews:
These delightful treats will get your taste buds tingling and sweet tooth filled with joy. When I tasted these sensational Shakespearean biscuits my mouth was filled with perfect balance of flavours. These treats are an amazing recipe to share with your family, as mine thought they tasted delicious. The pockets of currants were heaven to the taste buds, bursting with freshness and flavour. Although this recipe is quite dry, when the biscuits come out of the oven, they are crumbly and crunchy. This recipe will be used lots by me, and my family. These Sensational Shrewsbury classics could be altered by spices and different currants. (Abi P)
