Rene Shines at London Fashion Week
Art Scholar Rene Zeng received a special invitation to join the London Graduate Fashion Week awards catwalk show held this week at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. Rene was a runner-up for her age group in a secondary schools’ competition completed in our Caterham Art Scholars group. The competition challenge was to design a capsule outfit on the theme of ‘Imagining Tomorrow’. Rene received a trophy and a goody bag as well as her invitation to the awards catwalk show.
The evening involved exploring exhibitions of graduate student’s fashion designs responding to big industry briefs with brands such as Debenhams, Next, Ellesse and Gymshark, amongst others, and celebrated the work of talents from over 50 global universities,. This was followed by catwalk style awards event with prizes presented by industry greats such as Douglas McLennan and Julien Macdonald.
It was a hugely innovative and creative evening for all involved and I hope that this will further inspire Rene to achieve even greater things in the future.
The Graduate Fashion Foundation is a charitable organisation and an essential part of the fashion industry. It is the springboard for new talent, the life forces the whole industry relies on. Over the past 34 years, more than 100,000 newly graduated and undergraduate students have been supported by and guided by the charity. The GFF aim remains the same today; dedication to encouraging young people, helping them find employment and getting the best start possible in the fashion industry.
