Fizzy Math Fun!

Fizzy Math Fun!

Last week saw our biggest ever Fizzy Maths session, with 86 enthusiastic Year 5 children from seven local primary schools taking part. St John’s, Furzefield, Audley, St Francis, and Marden Lodge were joined for the first time by Hillcroft and Chestnut Park, marking an exciting expansion of the programme.

The pupils have been working on their Fizzy Maths resource packs throughout the term in their own schools and came into the Wilberforce Hall to take their learning further with the support of 25 Caterham 5th Year and Lower Sixth Maths Ambassadors. Together, they tackled a series of challenging activities designed to stretch their higher-order thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills—often requiring a blend of mathematical technique, creativity and trial-and-error.

The session was led by Miss Vijayakumar and is part of a growing and increasingly impactful initiative that has become a highlight of our outreach programme. Now in its fifth year, Fizzy Maths continues to evolve, shaped by experience—including lessons learned during lockdown—and driven by a commitment to engaging young minds in the joy and challenge of mathematical thinking.
