CaterhamConnected Medic Insight Evening
On Wednesday evening, Sixth Formers from Caterham and our partner schools, parents, alumni and staff gathered in the historic Governor’s Hall at St Thomas’ Hospital London for a truly inspiring Insight Event on ‘The Future Medicine – Innovation, Ethics and Impact’. Keynote speaker Dr Suneil Ramessur opened the evening with an engaging talk on the benefits of AI in medicine, reassuring the audience that while technology will continue to enhance medical practice, it will never replace the compassion and humanity required of medical professionals. No robot, he reminded us, could ever deliver life-critical news with a human touch.
An incredible line-up of leading medical minds, all either parents or Old Cats included Dr Hannah Wright, Dr Gengatharan, Dr Ovens, Dr Attard, Dr Ko, Simon Miles and Professor Nicholas Hart shared their stories, wisdom and advice, inspiring everyone present. Old Caterhamian Professor Hart (famous for saving the life of Boris Johnson during Covid-19) closed the evening with heartfelt reflections on the enduring importance of clear communication and a constantly enquiring mind in all medics.
His words deeply inspired the young people in the room. As he spoke about the coming change of the guard, as the next generation of medics step forward, he emphasised the importance of seasoned practitioners sharing their hard-won experience and guidance. It was a warm reminder of the value of the mentorship of CaterhamConnected and an insight into the changing face of medicine.
