Enactus Hackathon in Action!

Enactus Hackathon in Action!

As part of the EDGE innovation curriculum Third Year pupils took part in their first Hackathon. We were thrilled to welcome Enactus to Caterham School who facilitated the immersive day, designed to provide pupils with a practical taster of using business and innovation to create social impact. A hackathon is an event, where people come together to collaborate to solve a problem or identify new opportunities.

This is the first time Enactus has run such an event in conjunction with a school, and our pupils were asked to address such societal and organisational topics as Food Insecurity, Local Isolation / Loneliness and School Energy Consumption.  During the day pupils worked through the process of identifying a social problem to pitching a sustainable solution.

Pupils were buzzing with enthusiasm, as they were guided in teams to develop their social enterprises, drawing on their critical thinking, creativity and collaboration skills.

The day culminated with shortlisted teams presenting their ideas. The winning team delivered a fantastic pitch, leaving the judges very impressed with the imaginative and tangible solutions demonstrated by all. We hope some of these excellent ideas will one day go beyond the classroom and be used to make a long-term impact in the future.

The day will be used as part of the EDGE Certificate of Mastery and underpinned the core skills we aim to develop as part of the EDGE curriculum.
