Pupils Get Hands-On with Custom Keyboards
The Keyboard Building Club launched with plenty of buzz and excitement as pupils jumped straight into the world of custom keyboards. In the first session, members began by selecting the key components for their builds, choosing everything from keyboard cases and switches to keycaps that reflected their personal style. Some went for bold colours and eye-catching designs, while others opted for a sleek, minimalist option.
Pupils also learned about different keyboard sizes and connection types, crucial considerations when planning a custom build. The room quickly filled with lively discussions as pupils explained their choices, compared switch types, and shared advice with one another. It was great to see such collaboration and curiosity right from the start.
By the end of the session, every pupil had designed a keyboard to be proud of. Over the coming weeks, the club will explore keyboard building in greater depth, with hands-on opportunities to test different switches, fine-tune typing feel, and experiment with ways to improve sound and acoustics. There’s a lot to look forward to, and the enthusiasm so far has been fantastic.
