An Evening of Chamber Music

An Evening of Chamber Music

SevenĀ of our talented chamber music ensembles took part in a day of masterclasses with professional chamber musicians. Our string quartets, alongside duo ensembles and piano trios, were tutored by pianist Jocelyn Freeman and violinist Victoria Mavromoustaki in works they have been studying this term. The evening event took the form of an informal lecture-recital, with all ensembles showcasing their learning from the masterclasses.

The Soderberg Quartet opened the concert with a confident performance of Haydn’s ‘Emperor’ Quartet, while the Wilberforce Quartet followed this with an assured and mature reading of Beethoven’s F major String Quartet.

Darwin Y and Vivian W showed great potential and maturity in their performance of Concertino in G by Rieding, followed by the Second Year Trio playing Vivaldi’s Trio Sonata in G minor, showing fantastic ensemble musicianship. The Bridge Trio enjoyed working on bringing out the dynamic contrast and interplay in Beethoven’s Clarinet Trio, while the Amadeus Trio impressed with their polished performance of Beethoven’s E flat Piano Trio. Lia N, Mannix K, Florence N ended the evening with a poised and mature performance of the beautiful Elegia from Arensky’s Piano Trio in D minor.

This was a fantastic showcase for the wonderful array of talent amongst our musicians; chamber music is a notoriously challenging discipline, and it was marvellous to see pupils learning so much from our visiting professionals and putting that into practice in their performances. Well done to all involved.
