CCF Adventures In Derbyshire

CCF Ex WHITE PEAK, 14-17 February 2026
Early on the first Saturday of half-term, 45 cadets embarked on a four-day Adventure Training camp based at Great Hucklow in the heart of the Peak District.

We participated in lots of outdoor adventurous activities. On the first day, we did canoe on the beautiful Ladybower Reservoir, and thankfully most of us managed to stay afloat without capsizing into the chilly water. In the evening after some dinner, we learnt navigation skills ready for a navigation activity later in the trip. The next morning, we set off for caving and most of us recruits, including me, were encountering this experience for the first time, but really enjoyed it nonetheless – crawling through rocks, mud and water deep underground. That evening, we had another delicious meal and then had some down-time bowling.

On Monday, we headed out onto the moors for climbing in quarries, alongside some navigation to and from lunch. Despite the rain, we all had a great time climbing and belaying each other. Following dinner, we tested our knowledge in a quiz as our evening activity. On the last day, we did abseil at Millers Dale. This was my favourite activity as I found it exhilarating and, though it was scary first looking down from the top of a huge viaduct over a fast-flowing river, I felt a big sense of achievement to successfully get to the bottom – twice! We then departed the Peak District with lots of filthy laundry and many memories that will stay with us forever.
