Lecture at Royal Geographical Society

Our Lower Sixth Form geographers attended an evening lecture at the Royal Geographical Society on Wednesday 4 March by Professor Emma Mawdsley, Head of Geography at the University of Cambridge and one of the UK’s leading scholars of global development and geopolitics. The lecture explored the rapidly changing landscape of global governance, examining how long-standing international institutions and legal frameworks are being challenged by shifting political priorities, unpredictable leadership, the rise of nationalist governments, and new demands from emerging powers.

Professor Mawdsley encouraged students to think critically about the future of the international rules-based order, challenging students to see themselves not simply as observers of global change, but as potential advocates for a fairer and more effective system of global governance. The event provided an excellent example of the kind of ambitious, cutting-edge geographical thinking that helps prepare our Sixth Form students for Geography study at university.
