Drama Workshop with Kit Miles
Last Friday, pupils met with professional playwright Kit Miles for an afternoon of writing and discovery. The workshop began with discussions around what makes a play and why you should write a play, with pupils offering their ideas around language, messaging, and how plays can change our view of the world. Kit then guided pupils through a series of exercises, using found objects to build characters and quickly generate scenes involving them.
There were some fantastic ideas on display, and we have no doubt that the future of playwrighting is in good hands!
‘Over the workshop Kit recreated a condensed version of the exercises they would do in a day of writing, and what I enjoyed was being stimulated to think in new ways through the activities – having to write a scene where two vastly incompatible characters had dialogue was especially hard! I really appreciated the chance to discuss questions like ‘What is the purpose of theatre?’ and ‘What differentiates a piece of performance as a play?’ with an industry professional, as well as being inspired to find my next idea!’ – Flo R
