Nail biting Finish at Hans Woyda Maths Competition
This Wednesday, Caterham went up against Whitgift School in the Southern section plate final of the Hans Woyda maths competition. The competition on the way had been fierce, but Caterham had beaten every opponent in the knockout section handily so went into the final full of confidence.
The match started off even with Caterham gaining a two-point lead in the second round before Whitgift evened the score again and pulled ahead themselves. Both teams were scoring very highly in each round, Caterham getting 29/30 in the team round and Whitgift 30/30. Going into the final round Whitgift were ahead a scant 3 points, and the head-to-head race began. It was at this moment that Caterham pulled out all the stops. With repeated photo finishes Caterham’s accuracy was the telling factor and they managed to turn that 3 points lead around to end up with 48 to Whitgift’s 45.
A truly nail-biting end to a hard-fought match. Huge congratulations to our team Anastasiia M, Jack Z, Jiayi L and Vivian W but also all the others who took part in our past matches. We’ve had a fantastic team this year with some stellar performances all round. Now the only question is “can we hang on to our title next year?”
