Lax Cats Roar at National Schools Tournament with Record-Breaking Performances
It was an unforgettable week for Caterham School’s “Lax Cats” as six teams competed at the National Schools Lacrosse Tournament, delivering some of the strongest results in the school’s history.
From nail-biting finals to standout team performances across multiple age groups, Caterham’s players showcased resilience, determination, and exceptional skill on the national stage.
The 1st team enjoyed a superb campaign, going undefeated on day one to secure their place in the highly competitive Championship Division. Building on this momentum, they battled through the second day’s group stages before narrowly exiting in the Top 16 knockout rounds—a significant achievement at the highest level of school lacrosse.
Meanwhile, the 2nd team delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament. After battling through a tough opening day to earn a place in Division 2, they hit their stride on day two, progressing all the way to the final. In a closely contested match, they were narrowly defeated 3–2, finishing as Division 2 runners-up.
The 3rd team also impressed, fighting their way to the Division 2 semi-finals, underlining the depth of talent across the senior squads.
Caterham’s younger teams continued the success story. The U15A side secured a strong Top 16 finish, while the U14A team achieved an excellent Division 1 placing, competing against some of the best schools in the country.
U13s Shine Bright in Championship Run
The highlight of the week came from the U13A team, who produced a remarkable run to finish as Championship Division runners-up.
Their journey to the final was nothing short of dramatic, with a thrilling semi-final that went to extra time, showcasing their determination and fighting spirit. Despite giving everything in the final, they were ultimately edged out by Putney. Having left it all on the pitch, the team could hold their heads high after an outstanding campaign.
Across all age groups, the Lax Cats demonstrated not only their technical ability but also their teamwork, resilience, and passion for the sport.
With six teams competing and multiple podium finishes, semi-final appearances, and top-tier placements, this year’s National Schools Tournament will go down as one of Caterham’s most successful to date.
Well done to all players and staff involved in an incredible week of lacrosse.
