Ishani records exceptional figures to lead Caterham to victory

The U15A Caterham Girls secured an outstanding 87-run victory over Woldingham in the last 32 of the Surrey Cup, continuing their strong start to the season. On a beautiful day, with Homefield looking in fine condition, the team arrived full of confidence and eager to build on their weekend win. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Caterham set about building a strong total from the outset.

Romilly L and Martha P provided the perfect platform with a superb opening partnership of 78, putting Woldingham immediately under pressure. Martha was particularly impressive, striking the ball confidently to all parts of the ground in a superb innings of 47 from just 34 balls. With the foundation firmly in place, the middle order accelerated well, rotating the strike effectively and running exceptionally well between the wickets to keep the scoreboard moving. The team’s intent and awareness between the wickets were especially pleasing, showing clear progress in this area. Caterham finished on a highly competitive 143, giving themselves a strong total to defend.

In response, the bowling attack was excellent from the very first over. Louisa Winter set the tone beautifully with a disciplined opening spell of 4 overs, finishing with 1 for 16, and was unfortunate not to pick up more wickets for her efforts. The standout performer, however, was Ishani P, who delivered a devastating spell, finishing with remarkable figures of 6 wickets for 9 runs from her 4 overs. Her accuracy, control, and consistency proved too much for the Woldingham batters. The tail was then wrapped up efficiently by Ella D, Millie H, and Sophie F, ensuring Caterham completed a dominant 87-run win and booked their place in the next round versus Reigate.
