Cricket Cup Success for Caterham Girls!
1st XI Secure Semi-Final Spot with Dominant Performance Over RGS
A superb all-round performance from the Caterham School Girls 1st XI secured a convincing 36-run victory over rivals RGS Reigate, booking their well-deserved place in the semi-finals of the County Cup.
After RGS won the toss and elected to field, Caterham set a highly competitive target, finishing their 20 overs on an impressive 146 for the loss of just two wickets. The innings was brilliantly anchored by an excellent opening partnership. Jess showed fantastic resilience, scoring a disciplined 32 runs off 49 balls to lay the foundations. Captain Blincoe led from the front with a spectacular, masterclass performance, smashing an unbeaten 52 off 54 balls, including four boundaries. Martha provided vital late-order acceleration, chipping in with a brisk 10* off 14 balls to close out a dominant batting display.
Defending 146, the Caterham bowling unit put on a clinical display. The visitors were restricted to 110/2 from their 20 overs as our bowlers consistently built pressure and suffocated the run rate. Savidge claimed a crucial breakthrough, finishing with clinical figures of 1/14 off her 3 overs.
Blincoe then followed up her half-century with an incredibly economical spell, conceding a mere 4 runs from her 3 overs to finish with a remarkable economy rate of 1.33. The fielding display was equally sharp, highlighted by exceptional teamwork between Jess and Ishani, which resulted in a brilliant, match-defining run-out. The team also included four 1st XI debutants.
Congratulations to the 1st XI on an outstanding team effort and a phenomenal victory!
Caterham School U13A Girls 74-0 defeated Royal Russell 70-8 by 10 wickets.
In the last 16 of the county cup, Caterham U13A Girls produced an outstanding all-round performance to secure an emphatic 10-wicket victory on Wednesday afternoon, chasing down 71 in just 8.1 overs after a disciplined bowling display restricted the opposition to 70-8 from their 20 overs.
After winning the toss, Caterham chose to field and quickly put pressure on the batting side. Charlotte AS struck in the opening over before a superb collective bowling effort kept scoring opportunities to a minimum. Georgina W bowled with excellent control, conceding just six runs from her four overs, while Genevieve M delivered one of the standout spells of the day with figures of 1-2 from two overs, including a maiden. Ella D also impressed late in the innings, taking two wickets for seven runs.
Despite resistance from one opposition batter, who top-scored with 15 not out, wickets fell regularly throughout the innings. Sharp fielding and accurate bowling ensured the batting side never built sustained momentum, eventually finishing on 70-8.
In reply, Caterham’s openers Katherine D and Elizabeth Amade light work of the chase with an unbroken partnership of 74. Katherine led the way with a fluent 24 not out, striking three boundaries, while Elizabeth added a composed 17 not out. Extras also contributed heavily as the target was reached comfortably with nearly 12 overs remaining.
