Fantastic Presentations from the Six Finalists

The Wilberforce Hall was most certainly the place to be on Friday evening. The room was alive with anticipation for the academic treat that was the Inters’ IRP Final. Six finalists from the Third and Fourth Years who had submitted Independent Research Projects on a subject of their choice, waited to present their findings to an ever-growing audience.

Kohana L had the dubious privilege of kicking off proceedings with her superb presentation on what the fork has to say about resistance to change in European culture. Thereafter followed impressive talks by Julian M on how language influences economic behaviour, by Mia M on whether we can still hold people morally responsible for their actions if free will is an illusion, by Vivian W on the phenomenon of déjà vu, by Harry F on why his legs hurt after intensive swimming training, and by Amritaa D on whether the Brontë sisters defied literary and social norms in their writing.

The judges were then faced with the incredibly difficult task of choosing a winner. Congratulations must go to all six of our finalists, who withstood, with maturity beyond their years, a barrage of questions from the judges. Especial commendation though, must of course be given to those pupils placed: to Harry on receiving the Audience Vote, to Mia on being awarded Runner-Up, and to Amritaa on being awarded Overall Winner.

Our thanks go to parents, pupils and staff for attending the evening, and making it the very special occasion it was, and of course, to the judges – Mr Law, Mrs Webster, and from the L6 Oxbridge cohort, Jess C and Harry E.
