End of Year Outstanding ABRSM Success for our Musicians

There is a wonderful atmosphere of celebration in the Music Department this week as pupils from both the Prep and Senior Schools, and Copthorne Prep, achieved an exceptional set of results in their recent Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examinations.

From our youngest instrumentalists taking their first graded assessments, to our experienced senior musicians tackling the highest grades, pupils demonstrated remarkable dedication, musicality and resilience. Their success reflects months of careful preparation, countless hours of practice and the confidence to perform under exam conditions. The quality of the performances made a particularly strong impression on the visiting examiner, who praised not only the pupils’ musical abilities but also their professionalism, preparation and positive attitude throughout the examination day. In feedback to the Music Department, the examiner remarked that the pupils were “a real credit to the school”—a wonderful endorsement of the values, commitment and enthusiasm they bring to their music-making.

An impressive 75% of candidates achieved Merit and Distinction awards across a wide range of instruments and voice, highlighting the breadth of musical talent throughout the school. These achievements are particularly commendable given the many other academic, sporting and co-curricular commitments our pupils balance alongside their music studies, especially at this time of year.

ABRSM examinations assess far more than polished performances. Pupils are challenged in technical skills, musicianship, sight-reading and aural awareness, providing a comprehensive measure of their musical development and encouraging confidence, discipline and creativity.

These outstanding results are a testament not only to the hard work of our pupils, but also to the expertise and encouragement of our dedicated Visiting Music Teachers, whose commitment inspires pupils to achieve their very best.
