Caterham Pupils Thrive in Maths Challenge
Junior Maths Challenge
In April, 96 First and Second Year pupils attempted the UKMT Maths Challenge, a 25-question multiple-choice test that poses difficult questions requiring logical thinking and mathematical poise. Of the cohort, 26 were awarded bronze certificates, 18 silver, and 36 gold. Congratulations to Pierre M. and Alexander J., who scored the highest in their respective year groups, with Alexander J. the best in the school.
Junior Kangaroo
18 pupils took part in the follow-on round of the Junior Maths Challenge, after qualifying amongst the highest in the national cohort. Well done to the 6 bronze, 4 silver and 5 gold certificates awarded to Caterham pupils this year.
Special congratulations to Oscar M., who achieved the best score in the First Year with 118/135, and to Leo C., who achieved the best in school with a truly impressive 130/135 in this year’s competition.
Junior Olympiad
After impressive performances in the Junior Maths Challenge, Sara K, Pierre M and Alexander J took part in the Olympiad, taken by the very highest performers of the initial challenge. This test requires pupils to think hard about problems with depth and precision. Well done to Sara K. for achieving a Merit, and massive congratulations to Pierre M., who has been awarded a Bronze medal as one of the top 100 pupils who took the Olympiad.
