London Academy of Excellence Visits Caterham

On Friday 19 September, Caterham was delighted to welcome pupils from the London Academy of Excellence (LAE) for our annual Caterham House visit.

Caterham has a long standing relationship with LAE as one of the founding partner schools of the academy, which opened in 2012 as a state funded Sixth Form. LAE is highly selective, with pupils meeting the academic requirements for entry, and each of its Houses is named after one of its partner schools. Every year, pupils from Caterham House have the opportunity to meet and work with students from Caterham, helping to strengthen the relationship between the two schools.

This year, more than 150 Lower Sixth pupils came together for the event, creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day. Mr Owen gave the LAE students a tour of the school site, sharing some of Caterham’s history and traditions and helping to bring the name of their House to life.

Pupils then worked together to develop a pitch for a potential joint event, before being introduced to the Caterham Connected team and hearing about opportunities such as the Ethics Cup. After lunch, everyone enjoyed a walk up to the Viewpoint in the sunshine, providing plenty of time for pupils to continue conversations and get to know one another.

The day was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to make new connections, share ideas and discover common interests. Many of the pupils are considering similar career pathways, and there were plenty of conversations about future opportunities, alongside new contacts and friendships being formed.

It was a hugely positive day for everyone involved, and a great example of how our partnership with LAE continues to create meaningful opportunities for pupils from both schools. We are very much looking forward to seeing where these new connections lead.
