Human 2.0 – Patrick Kane.

Explore and celebrate the remarkable achievements made in medical engineering and gain a glimpse of what the future might hold for humanity.

Pioneering technological breakthroughs have truly changed lives. For some people, particularly those with disabilities, recent advances have crossed the realms of the purely imaginable and reached a place of possibility.

People with paraplegia can walk again, those who are hearing impaired can listen to even the faintest sounds, and some people with missing limbs can create beautiful works of art. This phenomenal book is a celebration of all that has been achieved so far, and a look at what might be possible in the near future. Is it inevitable that technology will surpass biology?

Patrick Kane is a motivational speaker, campaigner, Ambassador to The UK Sepsis Trust and Ambassador to Össur. In 2010, he was fitted with a revolutionary bionic arm – the I-Limb Pulse, after contracting septicaemia as a baby. He has since gone on to carry the Olympic torch through Trafalgar Square as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games ceremony, spoke at TEDxTeen in 2014 and appeared at WIRED Next Generation in 2015.

What If….? – Emma Young

What if every volcano exploded at once? What if every tree vanished overnight? What if you didn’t make snot? What if you only ate cockroaches for a year? Join Emma Young for an exciting and interactive talk about her two books What If…. Every Volcano Erupted at Once? and What If…You Didn’t Make Snot?

Whether they’re searching for one answer or get immersed in finding the answers to questions like, what if the Earth’s core was made of polystyrene? Or what would happen if you never slept, these books were inspired by Emma’s son who constantly asked “What if…”

Packed with fascinating facts about the human body and the earth that are guaranteed to change the way readers think about anatomy and our planet, Young explains each answer with humour and plenty of science facts that readers will be racing to share with their friends and family.

Emma Young is a science journalist and author, who has written for the Guardian, the Sydney Morning Herald, and New Scientist. She has also written popular science books for both adults and children, including an adaptation of Bill Bryson’s The Body for children – A Really Short Journey Through the Body.
