The Wright Society Annual Medicine Lecture with Dr Luke Bashford OC

Dr Luke Bashford, Old Caterhamian: My Career in Neuroscience and the Future of Neurotechnology

We are thrilled to welcome Dr Luke Bashford OC as our guest speaker for the Annual Wright Society Medicine Lecture. After a decade at Caltech, Luke now lectures in Neuroscience at Newcastle University.  Dr Bashford will speak about his career in Neuroscience and the extraordinary future of Neurotechnology.

Devices implanted into the brain can record signals from hundreds of individual neurons. Current academic and clinical research aims to interpret these signals towards developing methods for restoring lost function after different neurological conditions, and to better understand how the brain controls behaviour. These devices are called Brain-Computer Interfaces or BCIs. In his research Luke has used BCIs to restore movement and sensation to individuals who have damaged nervous systems as the result of injury or illness. Luke will showcase the science and medicine behind current BCIs and discuss the future of these neurotechnologies.

Date: Tuesday, March 5. Join us from 6.30pm onwards for welcome drinks, with the lecture starting at 7.00pm

Venue: Humphreys Theatre
