A Celebration of Music at Summer Live Lounge
The Humphreys Theatre was alive with music and atmosphere as pupils from First Year through to Upper Sixth took to the stage for this term’s Live Lounge concert. Featuring acoustic interpretations of a wide range of pop favourites, the evening showcased not only the impressive vocal ability across the school, but also the confidence, creativity and enjoyment of everyone involved.
Accompanied throughout by the staff band, the performers delivered a programme chosen by themselves. A special mention must go to talented Third Year pupil Elliot W, who joined the staff band on bass guitar for several songs, adding great energy and musicianship to the performances. A special mention also to talented Lyla B who performed her own composition.
The evening featured a wonderful mix of musical styles and eras. There were beautifully delivered classics, including Sam Y’s soulful rendition of Seal’s Kiss From A Rose and Maya J’s moving performance of Radiohead’s Creep. The audience were equally captivated by powerful ballads such as Eve N’s heartfelt interpretation of Adele’s Someone Like You, while Will C brought warmth and charm to the more folky sounds of Hey There Delilah.
Congratulations should go to our First Year performers, who took to the stage with confidence and maturity beyond their years, contributing hugely to the success of the evening.
Towards the end of the concert, our non-sacred choirs, Vocalpoint and Close Harmony, delighted the audience with lively performances of Unwritten and the Guns N’ Roses classic Sweet Child O’ Mine, before joining together for a superb rendition of Alex Warren’s Ordinary.
A fitting finale came from the Second/Third Year Band, Alex J, Alejandro GB, Tom B and Elliot W, whose energetic performance of Bruno Mars’ Runaway Baby brought the evening to a thrilling close.
This term’s Live Lounge was a real celebration of vocal and musical talent across the school. Relaxed, entertaining and full of memorable performances, it was an evening thoroughly enjoyed by performers and audience alike.
