Budding Medics Face Real Ethical Dilemmas
On Monday our wannabe Medics, Dentists and Vets were given an in depth look at how medical ethics works using real life examples. The speaker, Bethany Quinton and an Old Cat, taught Biology at Caterham 5 years ago before leaving to pursue a master’s and currently a PhD in Human Genetic Disease at UCL. As part of the lecture they were put into groups, to create their own ethics committees. Each group had to consider complex cases and make decisions, for example, whether to allow genetic testing of children who might have inherited a lethal allele.
A great session with so many dilemmas and no clear right or wrong answers.
