Cricket Season Off to a Flying Start
The cricket season has begun in impressive fashion, with Caterham pupils delivering a host of standout performances across all age groups.
With the bat, there have already been several eye-catching innings. Sophie S set the tone early with an outstanding unbeaten 97 for the Girls’ U14A side against Sevenoaks, one of the highest scores of the season so far. Strong contributions have also come from Olivia B, who recorded two unbeaten half-centuries, including a composed 53* against Emanuel and 51* versus Sutton High.
In the boys’ fixtures, Lachlan R has enjoyed an excellent start, producing scores of 59 and an unbeaten 58 against strong opposition, while Meet P impressed at 1st XI level with a well-constructed 59. Rory D also contributed a fluent unbeaten 51 for the U13A side.
The girls’ programme has been equally strong, with Katherine D (58*), Sophie S (52*), and Georgina W (50*) all reaching significant milestones. These performances highlight the depth of talent across the school’s cricket pathway. With the ball, there have been some exceptional efforts. Ishani P produced a remarkable spell of 6 for 9 for the Girls’ U15s, a match-winning performance of the highest quality. Charlie A (4 for 2) delivered a devastating burst for the U14A boys, while Rajan P claimed 4 for 31 for the 1st XI, underlining the strength of the senior side.
Congratulations also need to go to Lucy B, the 1st XI girls captain, who’s reputation and standing in the game continues to go from strength to strength, as she has been selected for the Surrey Academy, for a 3-day fixture against Durham, and a 50 over match against Yorkshire.
Overall, it has been a highly encouraging start to the summer term, with strong individual performances translating into competitive team displays across the board. We look forward to building on this momentum as the season progresses.
