Day of Discovery Exploring the Human Brain!
Lower Sixth Psychology pupils were immersed in a packed programme this Wednesday, exploring the fascinating world of neuroscience. The day began with an engaging overview of brain anatomy and the impact of modern challenges like smartphone use and PTSD. Pupils then delved into topics such as neuroimaging, brain damage, and future brain-computer interfacing.
A highlight for many was the hands-on brain dissection activity, during which students examined sheep brains to better understand the anatomy of the human brain. While one group participated in the dissection, the other completed a localisation of function task, allowing all students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
The event concluded with a thought-provoking session discussing contemporary research on the links between the brain and criminal behaviour, exploring how brain disorders might influence aggression and crime.
The day was a truly enriching experience, sparking curiosity and deepening understanding of the most complex organ in the human body.
