Family of Schools Concert

Caterham Family of Schools came together for an unforgettable evening of music at Leatherhead Theatre, with pupils from across the group participating in a vibrant and uplifting concert, Music for the Stage and Screen.

The first half showcased the power and unity of a massed choir, combining voices from all the schools in a truly inspiring opening performance of Circle of Life from The Lion King, elevated by a stunning solo from Ann T. Each school then had its moment to shine: The Hawthorns School brought flair to For Good (Wicked) and energy to You Can’t Stop the Beat (Hairspray), while Copthorne Prep charmed with a heartfelt rendition of I See The Light (Tangled). Caterham Prep followed with a moving performance of A Thousand Years (Twilight).

The senior school choirs, Close Harmony and Vocalpoint, impressed with their interpretations of Found / Tonight (Dear Evan Hansen / Hamilton) and Listen (Dreamgirls). A particular highlight came as the senior choirs united for Go the Distance (Hercules), featuring an outstanding solo from Will C. The first half concluded in spectacular fashion, as all choirs joined together for a joyous and rousing Joyful Joyful (Sister Act II), complete with a truly jaw-dropping solo from Sophia PW.

The second half shifted focus to instrumental excellence, beginning with the Caterham School Swing Band. Their set showed style and versatility, with lively and confident performances of Family GuySkyfallPink Panther, and Mood Indigo, each piece showcasing the ensemble’s tight coordination and musical flair.

Lower School Orchestra, made up of First and Second Year pupils, then took to the stage with remarkable confidence and enthusiasm. Their performances of MoanaThe Incredibles, and Mission: Impossible were delivered with great energy, demonstrating both their developing skill and clear enjoyment of performing together. It was particularly heartening to see such young musicians rise to the occasion on a professional stage.

The evening concluded with a thrilling showcase from the Symphony Orchestra and Film Orchestra. Their programme—Harry Potter Symphonic SuiteBack to the FutureThe AvengersTitanic, and Star Wars Through the Years—was nothing short of epic. Each piece was performed with power, sensitivity, and a real sense of drama, bringing the concert to a truly memorable close and highlighting the exceptional standard of music-making at Caterham Senior School.

Performing at Leatherhead Theatre added an extra dimension to the evening, with professional lighting and sound enhancing every moment on stage and giving pupils a valuable and authentic performance experience.

Above all, the concert was a celebration of community. It was inspiring for younger pupils to witness the achievements of the older pupils, offering a glimpse of what they can aspire to in the years ahead. As the first major event to bring together the Caterham Family of Schools in this way, it powerfully demonstrated how music can unite and uplift.

The music staff were justifiably delighted with the success of the evening, and there has been a tangible sense of energy and excitement across the schools. Enormous thanks must go to all the pupils who performed—your dedication, talent, and enthusiasm made the event a truly special and unforgettable occasion.
