Fantastic Start to Cricket Season

Fantastic Start to Cricket Season

It has been a wonderful start to the summer term with the cricket season in full flow amidst some glorious sunshine.

The boys 1st XI have started the season in fine form, defeating a strong Emanuel side in the first round of the National T20 cup by 1 wicket in a thrilling encounter on Homefield. Leo H and Mauris J were the pick of the bowlers, while Ethan V H led the batters over the line. The team followed up with another fabulous team performance against City of London Freemen’s last Saturday. Meet P and Zac L got Caterham off to a flyer before a middle order collapse reduced us to 83-6 before Ethan V H blazed a spirited 60 and was well supported by the tail to get us to 194 from 40 overs. In reply Captain Max T took 5 for 9 with his wily off spin in reducing CLFS to 101 all out, leaving Caterham victors by 93 runs.

The first ever Caterham School Girls 1st XI took the field in the first round of the national 100 ball cup and did themselves proud before slipping to a narrow defeat.

The U15 boys have started strongly winning their first 3 games of the season, defeating Lancing by 29 runs, (Cai H 52) Wilson’s, in the cup, by 4 wickets and CLFS by 9 wickets, In which Sam M took an incredible 5 wickets for just 3 runs with his off spin.

The U14 Boys are 2 from 2 with wins against Lancing by 8 wickets, with Noah E scoring 54 and Aaryan S 47, and against Royal Russell by 32 runs in the county cup.

The U14 Girls also won their 1st round cup match against Royal Russell by 83 runs.

The U13 and U12 boys have shown some good signs in their first couple of outings. While the U13 girls put in a great team performance to defeat Hazlewood in their opening cup match. Eva B top scored before being retired on 31, and Isla T chipped in with a perky 24. Siya L and Olivia B bagged 2 wickets each in a good all round team performance.

The U12 Girls have also started their Caterham careers off in good fashion with a 12-run defeat of CLFS, thanks to excellent contributions with the bat by Elizabeth A and Genevieve M, and fantastic bowling from Katherine D and Ella D.

Hopefully the sun keeps shining and the cricket continues to flourish.
