First and Second Year put their ‘thunking’ hats on!
Our lower school Ethics and Philosophy group, Thunk Club, has seen a roaring revival after the Summer Break!
Every Tuesday over 30 First and Second Year pupils congregate in H8 to ‘thunk’, this is where they consider wacky, and sometimes very serious, questions about our world. The pupils give reasons to the group for their answer to the question, sometimes convincing their peers of their point of view and at other times being persuaded by somebody else’s reasoning in fun debates.
This week they were posed the question: ‘What is real?’, so to help them dig into this existential conundrum they were given statements to rank from which they were least sure are real to which they were most sure are real. The room was bustling with noisy discussion and the only thing that seemed to be agreed upon was that we can’t be certain that anything is real!
Previous weeks’ questions have included ‘Are competitive sports ever truly fair?’, ‘Can we choose what we love?’ and ‘Should we bribe children to behave well?’.
If you like thinking deeply, talking lots and you have an open mind then Thunk Club is the place for you!
Come and see us in H8, Tuesdays @ 13:30-2:10
