Gold for Miss Denton, OC

Gold for Miss Denton, OC

Miss Denton OC was invited to Buckingham Palace this week to collect her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Miss Denton said “It was an incredibly rewarding event to be a part of, meeting everyone who had also managed to complete their award despite the pandemic. I began volunteering with a local Scout group as part of DofE  gaining my Chief Scouts Diamond award and the District Commissioner’s award for delivering online sessions alongside another leader during the pandemic.

For those looking to do the DofE award scheme, I would advise them to think carefully about whether activities they already do at school can count towards the award such as team sports or music. Also, the DofE website has hundreds of options for the week-long residential with everything from beekeeping to creative writing. It seems intimidating but I’m still in touch with people I met on my course as you all share a common interest.

Overall, I’m extremely proud to have completed my Gold award as it’s not only something to put on my CV but it really has given me skills for life as well as life-long memories.
