Launch of The Romantic Era at The Scholarship Society

Last week saw the return of Scholars’ Society and Dr Scott opened the new season with a super talk on Thomas Young, polymath extraordinaire. Incorporating an explanation of how and why The Romantic Era grew out of The Enlightenment (last year’s Scholars’ period), Dr Scott explored the arguments between early 19th Century scientists over the properties of light. Having plunged my classroom into darkness, he demonstrated Young’s dual slit experiment.

Next week, we look forward to hearing Mr Owen speak on The Rosetta Stone.

Scholars’ Society is open to all and runs on a Tuesday 4-5pm (Third Years) and a Wednesday 1.30-2.10pm (Fifth Years) and 4-5pm (Fourth Years) in CL16.
