The founding presidents of the newly established African and Caribbean Society, Fitnet and Theresa-Mae, marked Windrush Day this week by giving a lunchtime presentation to the History Society, Clio. Their well researched and wide ranging talk covered the context and experience of Caribbean immigrant communities in the UK in the second half of the twentieth century. As well as considering the challenges of discrimination and socio-economic hardship faced by immigrants, they were also able to explore more broadly the cultural, artistic and linguistic impact that black communities have had on modern British society.
