Microbiome Talk in The Darwin Society
The Darwin Society was delighted to welcome Dr. Berenice Langdon to the Biology Department this week to give a talk about the microbiome. Not only is Dr Langdon a GP, senior lecturer and honorary consultant at City, St George’s Medical School, but also a published author. She started her talk by discussing the definition of the microbiome and the misleading reporting about the microbiome in both the popular and scientific press. The audience were enthralled by the facts Dr Langdon shared, such as our gut microbiome releases as much energy as there is in a four-fingered KitKat, an average sized apple is covered in about 100 million bacteria (after being ‘washed’) and there are more microbes in a glass of tap water than in your stomach!
Thank you Dr Langdon for such an enjoyable and informative talk.
