Nurturing Young Readers

Nurturing Young Readers

In honour of World Book Day and in response to the perennial desire of parents for their children to read more, the English Department offered an insightful webinar, led by Head of English, Ms Wildsmith and the Second in Charge of English, Dr Bromley. Drawing on a wealth of recent research, they explained the importance of reading, what the challenges are that children face with reading in the modern world, what the English department are doing to promote reading at school and most usefully, they offered an extensive variety of practical strategies that parents can use to foster reading at home. Evidence-based research shows that for children to continue to enjoy reading into their teen years, they must have reading actively promoted, engaged with and modelled at home as well as school, so these strategies are a vital way to help parents support their children’s academic progress.

Please do watch the webinar here and if you have further questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with Ms Wildsmith or your child’s English teacher.
