Physics Bridge Building Competition

Physics Bridge Building Competition

Last week our Lower Sixth A Level physicists embarked on the annual Caterham Bridge Building competition. Working to specific design brief and using limited supply of costed resources, the students have formed themselves into competing engineering companies. Each group has been tasked with designing and constructing a balsa-wood bridge that has the greatest load-to-weight ratio to span an 80cm gap supporting a model railway. Now that we are halfway through the competition, the bridges are starting to take shape, and we look forward to testing them (hopefully not destroying them!) next week in the grand finale.
