Physics Problem Solvers Win Place in Final

Last Thursday pupils from the Lower Sixth Form and Fourth Year competed in the first round of the SATRO problem solving competition at St Philomena’s School in Carshalton. This involved designing and building a machine to clear waste from the sea within a strict 90-minute time period. Both teams put on a good show, coming up with working models that performed well in the one-minute assessment. There was then a wait whilst other factors, such as a design task and how much material each team used, were considered. When the results were finally announced the Sixth Form team did well but missed out on a top spot, whereas the Fourth Year team came first (much to their own surprise). As a result the Fourth Year team will now compete in the final at Charters School in the final week of this term.
