RECORD BREAKING GCSE RESULTS AT CATERHAM

Caterhamians opened envelopes which revealed 92% of all GCSE grades at 9 to 7 and 50% at the top grade 9 – smashing all school records! Over three quarters of all grades are at the top 9 and 8 grades. Over half the year group achieved a 9 in English and maths, with one in four pupils also taking further (Advanced) maths, and over half them securing a grade 9. The average grade achieved by a Caterham pupil is 8.2. Today’s phenomenal results represent a 50% increase in the top 9 & 8 grades versus 2019; the last set of results clear of any Covid adjustments.

2025’s record GCSE results show strength and achievement across every subject. Caterham’s leadership in digital, innovation and STEM has shone through with almost 90% of grades in Physics, Chemistry, Biology at 9-8 and 80% at 9-8 in Computer Science. Similarly, humanities and languages scored record results. 100% of grades in Mandarin from non-native speakers were grades 9 & 8 and Italian saw 100% of results at 9 to 7. Ever-popular Classics subjects Latin and Greek clocked 95% and 100% of grades at 9 to 7 respectively. Caterham Geographers navigated their way to 98% of grades at 9-7 and our musicians hit the high notes too with 80% of grades the top 8 & 9.

Ceri Jones, Headmaster, said: “Today has brought truly outstanding results across a breadth of subjects achieved by truly outstanding young people. We are incredibly proud of all of them – it is wonderful to see all their hard work and academic endeavour rewarded with such strong outcomes. The smiles and exited buzz from pupils, parents and teachers at school today has made this a truly memorable day. Many congratulations to everyone.”

“I am thrilled that these fantastic results enable our pupils to look forward to their Sixth Form studies and post 18 plans with confidence and also delighted for my colleagues and the whole school community.  These results reinforce the excellence and ambition that runs through the school and reflects our strong trajectory over recent years. We know that excellent results come from a school culture which has a focus on breadth and enjoyment,  where pupils feel they connect and belong, where there are no limits to the dreams and ambitions of our pupils and where pupils and teachers have a shared excitement and curiosity about learning and a passion for their subjects. We know that education and success is about so much more than just results – our commitment to wellbeing, digital skills, innovation and problem solving demonstrates that – but the joy and excitement at school today are an important reminder that strong outcomes are an integral part of an outstanding education.. Knowing this fantastic year group, they will thrive in our Sixth Form and well beyond. My thanks to colleagues and parents and all in the Caterham School community whose support has enabled today’s success.”

Today’s results follow hot on the heels of record-breaking A Level results last week with 82 per cent of pupils gaining their first-choice university and course, 12 pupils into Oxford and Cambridge and all 10 medics into medical school. Over two thirds of A Level results were A* or A grades and 92 per cent A* to B grades.

2025’s top Level results follow a glowing ISI inspection Report, which saw Caterham as the first and only UK school to achieve three Key Areas of Strength in an inspection with the school singled out for teaching & learning, wellbeing and digital and innovation. Caterham has also gained a string of national awards including as a winner in the Independent School of the Year Awards 2024 and named as the Times Educational Supplement’s (Tes) Best UK Independent Senior School (winner 2023) and finalist for Best Independent Prep School in both 2024 and 2025.
